For Families
Getting Started
How does BestHospice.com work?
BestHospice.com connects you with verified hospice, palliative, and home health care providers in your area. Enter your ZIP code and care needs to see local providers and contact them directly.
Is BestHospice.com free to use?
Yes. The platform is free for families. Providers pay to be listed, so families never pay to search or contact providers.
How quickly can I find a provider?
Immediately. You can view provider options as soon as you enter your ZIP code. Many providers respond within hours, and urgent needs can often be addressed within 24–48 hours.
What's the difference between hospice, palliative care, and home health?
Hospice focuses on comfort near end of life. Palliative care supports symptom relief at any stage of serious illness, alongside treatment. Home health provides medical support at home for recovery or chronic care needs.
Do I need a doctor's referral for hospice care?
Yes. Hospice requires a physician certification of terminal illness (generally a 6‑month prognosis). You do not need a referral to browse providers or ask questions.
Choosing a Provider
How do I choose the right provider?
Compare location, services, availability, experience with your condition, insurance acceptance, and reviews. Contact 2–3 providers to ask questions before deciding.
What does "Verified Provider" mean?
Verified providers have confirmed licensing and business credentials. We periodically re‑verify to help ensure accuracy.
Can I see reviews from other families?
When available, provider pages may include reviews or quality indicators to help you compare options.
What questions should I ask providers?
Ask about services, coverage area, start time, experience with your condition, insurance accepted, out‑of‑pocket costs, 24/7 availability, and care team details.
Cost & Insurance
How much does hospice care cost?
Hospice is often fully covered by Medicare and many private plans. Costs without insurance vary by provider and level of care.
Does Medicare cover hospice?
Yes. Medicare Part A generally covers hospice services when eligibility is certified by a physician.
What if I don't have insurance?
Many providers offer sliding‑scale or charitable care. Contact providers directly to discuss options.
Will insurance cover home health or palliative care?
Coverage depends on your plan. Medicare may cover home health if you meet criteria; palliative coverage varies by insurer.
Service & Support
What happens after I contact a provider?
Most providers conduct an intake call, schedule an assessment, build a care plan, and begin services—often within 24–48 hours.
Can I switch providers if I'm not satisfied?
Yes. You can change providers at any time. A new provider can help coordinate the transition.
What if I need help choosing?
Use our listings, reviews, and FAQs, and speak with multiple providers. Admissions teams can also explain services in detail.
